My first stab at turning a cheese knife handle. This piece was made from a piece of New Zealand Totara, a trimmed branch from under a power line. The handle ...<\/span><\/span>ended up being a bit small in the end but it was a fun practice round and I gained some serious appreciation of totara as a wood. It took way longer than necessary to get this piece down to round with the roughing gouge. Something just wasn't quite right and it took a while to realise that the tail stock wasn't clamped down evenly on both sides and so the whole piece of stock was out of alignment.
